Half of army assets on sale

MP Erion Brace reported what he called a catastrophe with the public property that is being given to the businessmen who have close ties with Prime Minister Berisha and Minister of Defense Imami, through a plan that gives away the most precious assets of the Ministry, and the most beautiful part of the southern coastline. Brace calls this a big corruptive affair.

In an interview for Top Channel, Brace says that the plan for the military, planned by the Ministry of Defense in 2009 and 2012, is nothing more than an open theft of public assets.

“In Karaburun there are 160.000 square meters to be sold. In Palasa, 20.000 meters, already sold. I want to ask Minister Imami to who did he sell these 20.000 meters? It goes on in Hiamara, including the Castle of Ali Pashe Tepelena and in Himara, with 20.000 other square meters. They are also discussing to sell the Tirana Military Hospital. Another private hospital has been staying there until today, but the agreement has expired and it has not been renewed. Now they will sell the other part of the Military Hospital. Within this plan is also the Military School, which could be given to another private business. In the previous list there was also the Marine Command of Bisht Palla, and now the entire base. They are planning also to sell the Marina School, in Vlore, and it might be turned into a construction site. Within this plan is also the famous Porto Palermo tunnel”, Brace declared.

The Socialist MP says that this catastrophe of thefts has been realized without transparency and in secrecy.

“The gossip coming from those who are unhappy by the sales are the ones who can make you start verifying. I heard yesterday that Minister Imami rejects transparency at the Commission of Security hiding after this secret. But the fact that Imami’s wife is aware of this list, cannot be called a transparency. The Albanian citizens are in a transparency process which is obligatory and which should be guaranteed now”, Brace declared.

Brace says that this privatization doesn’t serve to anyone, besides the government’s clients. He advises that these properties could be used for paying the high bill of former owners.

“It’s useless, because these properties could have been used for the physical compensation of the former owners, in order that this great financial burden that will be carried for other generations, could be zeroed by these properties. Based on the information that I have, these properties will go only to the government’s clients”, Brace declared.

As regards the legal means that could stop this sale, Brace says that you cannot find them in a country where law doesn’t exist.

The Ministry of Defense seems to be involved in another property related scandal. Some of the historical symbols might not exist in the future, such as the Ali Pasha Castle, Porto Romano, the Submarine tunnels, Military Hospital and the Military School in Tirana.
