Some young boys from Elbasan were arrested yesterday for committing bank
robberies through the electronic networks, becoming part of an
international network of hackers.
Police says that they still do not know how the two Albanian hackers joined the international ones for a theft of 4 million EUR, but they have received a much smaller part. The Albanians might have taken no more than 20.000 EUR.
This scheme that is mostly led by US hackers, cheats e-banking clients with fake e-mails, asking them information for refreshing the personal data, where they received their username and password. Then they transferred money to their own accounts.
After the verifications, the hackers from Elbasan and Lezha had sent such e-mails by transferring the money in foreign banks, while the Albanian banks have received only 20.000 EUR.
The Police says that they don’t exclude that the boys have transferred a bigger sum in any European bank, which might have been withdrawn by their collaborators. The police action was led in cooperation with foreign homologues, who stopped one of the most active criminal groups of electronic bank robberies.
