Gushi, professional robber

The 44-year-old from Patos, Fier, had been able to realize a series of robberies, four of which ended with murders and serious injuries. The Tirana Chief of Police, Bernand Caushaj, released other details to the media about the criminal activity of Viktor Gushi.

According to the head of police, he was a professional robber that acted alone. He used to lose his money in gambling, and part of that money he used to save in the next bank that he would rob. Police has learned that the robber was planning another attack for next week.

“He was preparing to commit the next robbery. He was very clear in remembering what he had done, and tell how he had committed his acts. He used to prepare robberies each time that he remained without money. This person was regular in casinos”, Caushaj declared.

Considered as a very objective by the police, the arrest of Viktor Gushi has engaged the greatest number of police resources, including the Traffic Police, the Criminal Police, the Order Police, the Special Forces and even Interior Service agents, who were the first to enter a casino where the robber was watching a football match. Due to the nature of the operation, the names of the collaborators will not be released. But according to the Tirana police, they had a great help by the award given by the police.

“This helped us through the several phone calls that we have had at the District”, Caushaj declared.

Police code named the operation “Banka”, and the footage received from the security cameras was a big help in the operation.

Victor Gushi was divorced eight years ago and he entered the crime world in Greece, where he was sentenced for producing and possessing narcotics. He returned in Albania in 2008 and started a series of robberies, mainly in banks. It seems that he has a psychological condition that makes him be harsh against women, mainly due to the divorce. Gushi admitted that he has felt hate for them very often.

He also confessed that he had injured the Aqueduct cashier on July 2010, and the murder of the other bank cashier, this Tuesday. Gushi declared that he was prepared to react with his gun against anyone that opposed him, especially when he had to do with a woman.

Minister Nishani thanks the Police

The Interior Minister, Bujar Nishani, thanked the state police for the operation in Vlore and Tirana.

He underlined that the crime investigation structures have made a professional investigation.

“A special thanks to the crime lab that made all evidence available in a record time, making possible the arrest by providing them to the other structures”, Nishani declared.

The Minister also thanked the citizens for cooperating with the State Police for his operation.
