The government of Kosovo has approved the draft law for ratifying the
international agreement between Kosovo and the European Union, which
makes way for the creation of the Special Court and the continuation of
the EULEX mission until 2016.
The Minister of Justice, Hajredin Kuci, presented the details of the draft-agreement that will pass this Wednesday at the Parliament with two thirds of the Parliament’s votes. Kuci didn’t give any detail regarding the creation of the Special Court that will deal with the alleged crimes of the KLA.
“This law will ratify the international agreement in general, including, and without limiting, the prolongation of the EULEX mandate in the areas that have been foreseen until June 15th of 2016, except of the Special Investigative Task Force, whose mandate and independence will be guaranteed with this agreement”, Kuci declared.
Kuci also explained other aspects of the draft laws that regulate the immunity and arm permissions of the EULEX staff during their stay in Kosovo.
Right after the government approved the draft of this agreement, the American Embassy in Prishtina encouraged the Kosovo Parliament Members to vote in favor of the agreement.
“We are appealing the Kosovo Parliament Members to keep this momentum by approving the creation of the court that will deal with serious statements from the report of the Council of Europe in 2010. The world is seeing if Kosovo is dedicated for a legal process that might resolve these things definitely”, the communication says.
The embassy writes that regardless of the Special Court sensitivity, this is the best option to close this chapter of the Kosovo history.
