Greek, second official language in Dropull

The Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, discussed the new law of national minorities with the Dervican residents in Gjirokaster.

The Minister said that the cooperation between the Greek and Albanian government will open a new chapter of development projects.

As for the Dropull Municipality, Greek will be the second official language through the new law.

According to Bushati, this law is a step ahead for Albania, as regards treatment of national minorities.

As for the stances of Greece, Bushati said he was hopeful that everything would be resolved under the same spirit of dialogue that was used for the minority law.

“With this spirit and dialogue we have prepared this law, using the best experts on minorities from the Council of Europe and OSCE. And this spirit and dialogue will continue, even with the implementation of the law”, said the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati.

Bushati traveled to Ioannina together with the Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro, to meet local officials, the Albanian consulate and Albanian citizens who have been living and working in Greece for many years. Bushati said that the problems of immigrants are an important part of the Albanian diplomatic agenda.
