I an interview for the “Ethnos” newspaper, the Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias, spoke about the negotiations with Albania, which started in Crete and will continue in Tirana.
When asked if he is optimistic about this negotiation package, Kotzias said that both parties are on the right track for an agreement that will be positive for both sides.
Kotzias said that the history of both countries has created conflicts but also possibilities of friendship. “We need to resolve our problems of the past, work for a better present and secure a cooperation agenda for the future. Resolving our issues in package takes into consideration the existing asymmetry of various matters”, Kotzias said.
The Greek Foreign Minister criticized the Greek opposition for asking him to make public the strategy. He said that the conservatory parties have no experience on such matters and that negotiation tactics are never made public before discussions.
When asked if the Albanian government has changed its stance towards Greece, Kotzias said that it is clear for Tirana that the European future is more important than other issues. Rama’s recent declarations, according to Kotzias, contribute to mutual trust for the future.
