The Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias, reinforced the concerns
expressed by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Federica
Mogherini, who said that historic dangerous tensions are still present
in Balkan.
Kotzias said that EU Foreign Minister discussed about Western Balkan crises and immigration. They expressed concerns especially regarding the situation created in Albania and Macedonia.
According to him, one of the concerns is that some states see EU just like a financial sponsor, or as a perspective to be part of a central power.
“It must be understood that the EU is a system of values and democratic perceptions. Democracy requires a culture of compromise and consensus”, he said.
This elementary democratic process cannot be absent in the countries north of Greece, Kotzias said, adding that he appealed EU countries to not stay silent about the developments in Balkan countries, but follow Athens’s example and speak publicly about issues.
