The Greek Foreign Minister, Avramoupulos, cancelled his visit to Albania
for the 100th anniversary of independence is protest against the
Albanian Prime Minister declaration, who stated that Preveza is an
Albanian land.
The Macedonian President has also rejected the invitation of his homologue, Bujar Nishani, to participate at the celebrations in Tirana.
The Macedonian Presidency announced that Ivanov cancelled his visit due to the recent incidents, without mentioning them specifically. The Macedonian public opinion was not pleased with the incident when Prime Minister Nikolla Gruevski was hit with eggs in Tirana, and some Macedonian flags were burned.
The Macedonian media has commented in different ways the celebrations that were held this Sunday in Skopje for Albania’s 100th anniversary of independence. The presence of the two Albanian Prime Ministers in this celebration has provoked even more the Foreign Minister and VMRO-DPMNE MP, Antonio Milloshovski, who commented in twitter: “The bigger the division between Macedonians, the bigger will the Albanian flag be”.
