More than one week ago, the General Consulate of Albania in Thessalonica
has started distributing passports and identity cards for the Albanian
citizens living in Greece. Olgert Selimi from Elbasan is the 670th
person that has received the new biometric passport.

“The staff of the consulate has tried to eliminate as much as possible the delays for this application”, says technical secretary of the consulate, Anjeza Lilollari.

One Komotini emigrant, Jorgo Vaso, says that he has received the biometric passport within two weeks.

The consulate has started the application process on March 28th and according to the Albanian emigrants, the procedures are being held normally. They declare that there are many Albanian citizens in the provinces of northern Greece who have not been informed for this service of the application process.

“20 days after the application for biometric passport or identity cards, the applicants should call the number 7007001103 and get informed by the secretary on what day they should withdraw the passport”, Lilollari explains.

Consulate adviser Adelina Zhegu clarifies that until now there have been applications for 1000 biometric passports and 700 identity cards.

“We have already produced 700 passports and 450 identity cards that the Albanian citizens can come and withdraw at any day”, says Zhegu.

The consulate staff says that there are averagely 45 applications per day, but they dispose all necessary means for more applications, for all the Albanian citizens that live in the Northern Greece.
