Free but under observation. A satellite will observe offenders through
GPS tracking devices, something that a few years ago seemed like coming
from sci-fi movies.
Following the example of western countries, Albania will use this new technological system to also reduce the observation cost for offenders under probation.
From now on, people convicted of light crimes will serve their time at home.
An ankle bracelet will be installed in the offender’s leg, and if he will not respect the parameters, he risks returning to jail without probation.
The Court will use the bracelet if it will be requested by the offenders or even by parents of underage criminals. The mechanism can be used only with the consensus of the person that will be kept under observation. If he will try to remove it through force, the operation unit will be informed in real time.
This is expected to increase public security and for offenders who have committed crimes against children, the system will give a warning each time the offenders approach to a school.
GPS probation monitoring is quickly spreading around the EU and US.
