Government rejects SMI amend

27/12/2013 00:00

The Albanian government rejected the proposition made by the Socialist
Party for Integration to not increase the tax on profit of the
manufacturing industry.

The Deputy Minister of Finances, Ervin Mete, declared that this would bring negative effects on the budget, and that in a near future, the government aims to see a total package of measures for a series of sectors”, Mete declared.

The rejection has not been welcomed by the SMI. Their MP, Perparim Spahiu, declared that it will be a burden on the industry and might remove investments from Albania, or even close some of them.

The next option after the rejection is proposing the amend in the Parliamentary session of this Saturday and see how the voting ends up. If the SMI votes for the amends, that would mark the first disagreement between the governing alliance forces, with the first important draft that the government sends to Parliament.
