The Albanian government has increased the payment to the company owned
by Cherie Blair, wife of the former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair,
for intermediating the conflict with the Rapiscan company.
Through a decision taken on December 28th, but that has not been published on the official bulletin, the Council of Ministers has raised the intermediating payment for the Omnia Strategy company, from 495.000 EUR to 645.000.
The left government promised to cancel the scanning concession in Customs, after appeals made by businesses, who complained of unfair charges.
Rapiscan sued Albania in August 2014 for 359 million USD and Albania hired the company of Mrs.Blair, with a 495.0000 EUR fee.
But the studio of Mrs.Blair changed opinion and advised the government to avoid the Court of Arbitration and settle instead. The government renegotiated the concession agreement, offering lower costs for businesses and the budget, although the opposition claims otherwise. Omnia Strategy obtained an additional payment form the budget money although they didn’t go to the Court of Arbitration.
