Government might change budget for flood compensation

Sources from the Ministry of Finances say for Top Channel that the spending for assisting affected families are being covered by the 50 million ALL fund of the Ministry of Interior.

But this is only for urgent needs, such as the sheltering of evacuated residents and their supply with food and clothes. The biggest bill will be revealed after the water withdraws.

The government has a reserve fund of 1.5 billion ALL. Sources from the Ministry of Finances say that this will be the basic fund for compensating the damage. But the real bill will be learned only after finishing with the evaluation in terrain, after the government decides about the level of compensations. The Prime Minister declared yesterday that the affected residents will be compesnated.

If the compensation bill will be higher than the reserve fund, the government will be forced to find other sources. Even if the bill turns out to be smaller, the budget would have to change later during the year after any kind of unexpected emergency.
