Government declares state of emergency for electricity, investments suspended

The Albanian government has declared a state of emergency on the supply of electricity.

The decision of the Council of Ministers stated today that the state energy companies “KESH”, “OST”, will suspend investment plans, except for those necessary for the continuing of activity.

The order states that the agencies must coordinate the exercise of the activity, in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, in order to guarantee uninterrupted electricity.

Earlier in a press conference, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that ‘tomorrow I will announce the special plan to face the situation of the energy crisis’.

Rama said that from discussions with economic experts, they have concluded that the peak of the energy crisis is expected to be the middle of next year
