Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Apparently, the government has been obliged to admit the difficult
situation with the public finances and has negotiated with the World
Bank for a loan that will also be used as budget support.
aysThe news was confirmed by the World Bank office in Tirana, saying that the WB has negotiated with the government for preparing a loan that will support development policies related with governing and competition, which could use additional financing for reinforcing the economic reforms.
The press communication also says that the Albanian government will be able to use additional support from the World Bank for reducing the fiscal weaknesses; for preserving the fiscal and macro-economic stability and for not disrupting the economic growth and the new jobs creation.
The discussion is in the initial phase. A World Bank group of experts will visit Albania next week for discussing and identifying, together with the government, the specific possibilities for expanding the economic reforms support; for preparing against the external hits; for stability and economic growth.
Top Channel was able to secure information indicating that the loan will mount up to 100 million USD, but it seems unclear in which areas will these funds be used and what conditions will the World Bank impose to the Albanian government in exchange of this financial support.
This is not the first time that the government receives financial offers for budget support, but it has always been rejected due to the strong conditions set by donators, and also for the fiscal discipline and debt reduction requirements. It remains to be seen if the World Bank will offer the same conditions.
