The government gave the green light for the new division of local
governments. With no last-minute surprises, the Council of Ministers
approved the proposition of the special parliamentary commission.
“Our stance for the administrative-territorial reform is clearly in support of the proposition that came from the parliamentary commission of the reform.
The project for the new division has 61 municipalities, which was decided after a detailed analyze for the functionality of each base of criteria approved by the commission.
Together with the relation and the opinion in favor of the division, the Council of Ministers will send all materials and documents related to the consultations to parliament”, declared Bledi Cuci, the Minister of Local Government.
As reported by Top Channel two days ago, the government has not changed its stance as regards the Himara Municipality, despite the discontent expressed by the government’s ally, Vangjel Dule of the United for Human Rights party, and the leader of the Omonia, Vasil Bollano.
“Himara is a municipality of Albania as all others. It is one of the 58 functional areas and it is not a minority”, Cuci declared.
July 31st, 2014, will mark the final session of this Parliamentary legislature, the moment when the Parliament will review the variant proposed by the government for the territorial reform.
