Government about to break with CEZ

The Minister of Finances, Ridvan Bode, publicly confirmed the suspicions
that the government is about to have a bitter break with CEZ.

“The Energy Regulation Entity, which is the Parliament’s authority, has started the procedures to remove the license. On the other hand, the government is making everything possible to guarantee uninterrupted power supply to the entire country”, the Minister declared.

Mr. Bode declared that they have been working for a long time, together with the World Bank, in order to find a solution that doesn’t damage the citizens’ interests.

“Seven World Bank missions have come so far only for this issue, so that we can find a solution without economic consequences for the country”, the Minister declared.

The government blames CEZ for the financial crisis of this company.

“The Regulation Entity has worked based on a schedule for reducing the debts of the company, but this hasn’t happened”, Bode declared.

“Not CEZ, but you, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy are the one to blame, because you have lied and you have failed in the model that you presented, the financial and technical side, and the Albanians are obliged to pay an expensive bill because of the government that is now robbing even the local administration”, declared the Socialist Ahmetaj.

Socialist MP Erjon Brace raised another suspicion that according to him is related with a financial scheme that includes some companies through which CEZ transfers its profits to the mother company.

“We’re talking about a network of companies, four of them, which have created a pyramidal scheme. The crime of CEZ Albania and the billing for CEZ distribution is a scheme of how the expenses are artificially increased, and CEZ Distribution has had losses for the last three years”, Brace accused.

The majority voted a normative act that took two urgent measures: they took 12 million USD from the local administration to pay the aqueduct debts that the municipalities and communes owed to CEZ. The second measure is a 7 billion ALL guarantee that the Albanian Energy Corporation will compensate the import for CEZ.
