Gjirokastra celebrates UNESCO anniversary for protection of Albanian polyphonic music

12 years after UNESCO took under its protection the Polyphonic music of southern Albania, as a valuable world heritage, Gjirokastra is celebrating the event with a concert.
The Folclorik Ensemble “Lunxheria”, which also celebrates its 80th anniversary of creation, brought on scene “Pearls of South”, as one of the greatest contributors to preserving the Albanian polyphonic music.
“Lunxheria” performed together with the “As e vogel, as e madhe” group of Kolonja; the “Kurora Labe” and a group of secondary school students.
“This period has served to better appreciate and improve this gem of the Albanian national culture”, said Zamira Rami, Mayor of Gjirokaster.
