The representatives of the OSCE Regional Office in Gjirokaster, together
with inspectors from the Public Health Directory, inspected the
condition of the schools in this town.
All schools were lacking of the heating system, and most of them had unacceptable hygienic conditions.
The monitoring of the situation came after two high schools suspended teaching the students after they requested the Municipality for heating systems.
The students of the “Siri Shapllo” high school say that their strike will continue even this Friday, if their conditions will not be met.
Children in some classes have paid from their own pockets for fixing the broken windows and for securing heat.
Despite the constant requests to the municipality, the conditions have deteriorated each year.
This year, public hygiene institutions confirmed that three schools risk closure if the situation will not change, while the OSCE representative declared that the situation will be part of the report that will be sent to the central office.
