Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The newest neighborhood in the town of Gjirokaster has 200 residences
that were initially constructed without permission at the suburbs.
Today, besides chaotic constructions, there is nothing there that
reminds you of a city or a town.
Gerhot, as the residents call it, has no health center, no schools, no cleaning service, no road illumination and no green spaces. The Gjirokaster waste collection point is only 200 meters away from the houses of this neighborhood, while the entire territory is polluted.
Between the residences there are also two farms that divide their territory with the new residents.
The construction of the new ring road gives hopes for these residents who have no urban transportation and even a road for taking their children to schools.
