At least five medical centers in Gjirokaster need urgent interventions.
The health center of the Cepo commune, 12 kilometers from the town, offers its services to 4000 residents, while the building is full of humidity and pollution, according to the Regional Coordinator, Bledar Ahmeti.
The electric power cuts have caused many medicaments to be destroyed in the fridges, including vaccines. However, Ahmeti says that the medical staff is ready to serve and that the 19 centers in total have a complete staff.
These centers offer their services to more than 80.000 residents with 122 nurses and 27 doctors. Many of them admit that the working conditions are very bad, and in many cases they lack of the minimal conditions.
