The Stebleve Commune residents in Librazhd have opposed the order of the
Environment Minister, Fatmir Mediu, to put into action 10 hectares of
forests divided in four parcels, which belong to the commune since
September 2012.
The head of this commune, Alban Fejzo, explains that the parcels are part of the community and cannot be given to private businesses licensed by the Ministry.
“These belong to the commune and they want to make an auction on June 10th. On behalf of the Stebleva community, I ask Minister Mediu to cancel this tender, because those properties belong to the Stebleva commune”, Fejzo declared.
“Some of the forest area transferred to the Stebleva commune will be given by the Minister of Environment to exploit it with a 10-year agreement. This is an open violation, because the owner now is the commune and it has the exclusive right to make auctions with its property”, declared Fatmir Brazhda, forest engineer.
Taulant Balla, the Socialist Parliament Member of this area, appealed the Ministry of Environment to withdraw from this auction made for electoral purposes, according to him.
“These forest areas belong to this people. The Ministry of Environment and Fatmir Mediu want to take it from the people and sell it to private operators. If the Ministry will not withdraw from the auction for the Stebleva and Polis forests, we will report them in the Prosecution for robbing these properties from the Stebleva and Polis people”, Balla declared.
Forest Director Arsen Poko declared that these parcels were foreseen to get managed one year ago by the Ministry of Environment. The experts are verifying if these parcels belong to the commune or not.
If they belong to the commune, the Ministry will be unable to touch them.
