German police officials declared that the so called “Witness X” has committed suicide.

Kosovo media quoted the police spokesperson, Stefan Bauer, saying that the key witness of the “Klecka” case has hung himself.

“He has committed suicide and there is no evidence for any other lead. However, the autopsy will reveal everything”, Bauer declared.

The “Witness X” was found dead in a park of Duisdburg, Germany. His death has occurred Tuesday night.

The news was confirmed this Wednesday by the EULEX mission, who declared that the German authorities are investigating.

The testimony of the “Witness X” incriminated the Kosovo MP Fatmir Limaj for war crimes that have happened in the “Klecke” village, when the Kosovo Democratic Party vice leader was a KLA commander.

The “Witness X” declared that on April 1999, Fatmir Limaj had ordered the execution of Velko Markovic and Nebojsha Gjuric, two Serbian officials that had been imprisoned in the burned houses of Klecke for three months. The witness, according to the prosecutor, had hesitated to execute the order before being completely convinced that it really came from Limaj.

Limaj is on house arrest about this case, while the 8 other KLA soldiers were sent in prison.

The trial against Limaj and the others is expected to start on October. Limaj is accused of having committed war crimes in the period January-June 1999, but Limaj’s alibi is that during this time he was in Albania, preparing the operation “Shigjeta”.

For proving this, the defense has created a list with 13 names from the KLA General Command, including the name of Hashim Thaci, the Parliament Speaker Jakup Krasniqi and other people who were asked to testify.
