The German Minister for State, Michael Roth, after meeting with Parliament Speaker Gramoz Ruci, said that Albania must continue the reforms, and the opposition must pass the Electoral Code.
When asked about the chances of Albania and Northern Macedonia to receive the green light for the EU accession negotiations this June, Roth made it clear that every candidate country is measured by its own achievements.
He said that the vetting process has had good results, considering that 100 judges and prosecutors were removed from the system. However, he noted that Albania’s corruption index, published on “Transparency International”, has deteriorated.
This is a concern, according to Roth, as he adds that the fight against corruption must continue with determination and that it will be a key priority for opening the EU accession negotiations.
