The German Ambassador to Tirana, Carola Muller Holtekemper, declared
for Top Channel that the international community’s requests to not
touch the Central Election Commission were ignored.
“A credible electoral process takes a special importance for the Albanian electorate. We expect CEC to be impartial and work with professionalism, not politically. There was no lack of communication by the friendly ambassadors with the Albanian politicians. It is a pity that these stances for democratic elections were ignored. It is very regrettable. We are monitoring and will bring our conclusions. We expect CEC not only to work on professional and apolitical bases, but also to respect the Copenhagen criteria. We expect the state administration to function in the same way, on the behalf of the Albanian citizens”, Holtekemper declared.
Will there be consequences for Albania now that the international advices were ignored?
“Everything in life has consequences. Our embassies will communicate with the EU delegation and the elections will be monitored by hundreds of observers. All observations will be collected and we will have a full picture of the electoral process”, the Ambassador declared.
Ambassador Holtekemper says that the Parliamentary developments of this Monday are not a good sign for the elections.
“Naturally, the actions that were undertaken yesterday will influence the electoral process, and as I said, it’s not like they did not have the necessary information”, she added.
