Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Association of the Gerdeci Tragedy Victims Relatives filed a
petition at the Court of Appeal, asking the explanatory arguments of the
verdict given on 12 March 2012, and the review of the Tirana Court
verdict, which they consider unjust.
One of the requests was the fact that the Supreme Justice Audit should monitor the work made by the judges and interfere for clarifying the dark issues of this extremely delayed process.
The explosion of an ammunition dismantling plant in Gerdec, on 15 March 2008, caused the death of 26 people and injuries of 300 others. After the trial was postponed for four years, with none of the defendants in prison, since their holding time had expired, the Tirana Court sentenced the 29 defendants with 98 years to prison in total, only for negligence and property destruction, and not for manslaughter.
