“I still do not understand my responsibility for the Gerdec explosion. The Command of the United Forces had no contracting, monitoring or supervision obligations, because the Ministry of Defense gave this object to the use of a private subject”.

Shpetim Spahiu reminded the judges that during that time, he had told to his superiors, as Chief of the United Forces Command that the location selected for the ammunition dismantling was problematic and it should be removed from the administration of the departments under their custody.

By referring to the conclusions that the tragedy was an accident, the General confirmed that he would not dare excluding any other lead, although the Prosecution had easily excluded them.

“At this point, the public discussion has verified a series of indications that deserved the Prosecution’s attention”, the General declared.

Today came also for his defense the former director of the Gerdec dismantling plant, Dritan Minxolli, who underlined that the Prosecution is not supporting their requests on the facts taken during the investigation.

“I have never closed the plant doors to any inspection of the Ministry of Defense. I want to remind to the judge panel that the plant was established within an existing military territory, within a closed perimeter, and the keys of that area were held by someone else. My duty was to manage the working process, as a linking bridge between the Albademil Manager and the workers”, Minxolli declared.

“The prosecution’s investigation was not complete and with an obvious tendency to accept a priori only the accident version, although the Prosecution did not investigate or did not held any forensic experiment for proving their theory”, Minxolli accused.
