Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Former vice Chief of the General Command of the Albanian Army,
General Agim Lala, was present in court for his defense against the
prosecution’s request, which asked a sentence of four years in prison
for the Gerdec case.
“I have been accused only because I held the duty of the vice Chief of the General Command, and because I was part of the group that has been working in that command, by being in the wrong place and on the wrong time”, Lala declared.
The General considered the charges as collective and declared that the Prosecution has not evaluated the evidence as they should.
“I was not aware for the task of planning the memo of 22 November 2007, which decided Gerdec as the place where the ammunition would be dismantled. I had no right to oppose it. The decision for the dismantling site, is not in my competence, and everything can be found in the Directory of Logistics file”, he added.
As for the two draft-orders, General Agim Lala admitted that there is an essential difference between them.
“This is a malicious action against me and the persons that have been accused among the army. This is intended, in the efforts to conceal the truth and the real responsibility”, Lala declared.
The General pleaded innocent by saying that his office has seen no document related with this case.
