Gerdec trial, pretence reading blocked

28/10/2011 00:00

For the fifth time, the prosecutors of the Gerdec case have failed to
finish the reading of the 500 pages long pretence against the 29
defendants of the Gerdeci tragedy.

The 150 remaining pages are the biggest mystery of the prosecutors’ pretences. However, the defendants’ lawyers say that based on the accusations that fall on their clients, they can predict the sentences that will be asked by the prosecution.

Referring to the Criminal code, for the gravest accusation addressed to four persons, that of murdering 26 people in qualifying circumstances and endangering the life of many others, the prosecutors might ask not less than 20 years or life to prison. For the others, who are charged of power abuse and falsification of documents, the Criminal Code provides sentences from 1 to 5 years to prison and a fine from 300.000 to 1 million ALL.

Judge Ridvan Hado has adjourned the session since the defendant Ylli Pinari is facing health problems.

The father of Erison Durda, one of the children killed by the Gerdeci explosion, appealed the head of the Albanian State to intervene.
