Gas prices hike

The New Year started with a bitter surprise for the consumers, who now are facing a new wave of gas prices hike.

The gas stations in Tirana are selling it with a record price that goes from 182 to 186 ALL per liter.

Compared to the last week of 2011, the oil price in some retailers has increased with 5 ALL per liter. Traders say that this is due to the new government tax established on fuels, called “the circulation tax”.

Initially, this tax entered in act last year, hiking with more than 5 ALL per liter. In this January it will have another increase of 2 ALL per liter, going to 7 ALLl.

Although the tax increase was of 2 ALL, together with the VAT it goes to 2.4ALL, while the real price increase in the market mounts to 5 ALL.

According to the traders, the other part of the price increase is due to the strengthening of the US Dollar towards ALL.
