The state owned Azeri company that manages oil and natural gas, SOCAR, could assist the Albanian government in creating a master plan for installing gas in the country and then implementing it.

This was discussed in the meeting of the Albanian PM, Sali Berisha, with the president of SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullajev, during his visit in Baku. He responded positively to the request made by Prime Minister Berisha, not on to see the investment possibilities in energy, but he also expressed the readiness to support Albania in the large project of installing gas in Albania.

The Azeri state company for oil and natural gas is one of the four shareholders of the international consortium Shah Deniz 2, which will soon take the final decision to transport gas in Central Europe through the Nabuco or the TAP project.

PM Berisha is lobbying for the decision to favour the TAP project, which also includes Albania. He met in Baku with all the shareholders of the consortium, such as the “British Petroleum” from Britain, the French “TOTAL”; the Norwegian STATOIL and the Azeri SOCAR.

Berisha underlined the advantages of TAP, as the most economic project that serves not only to Western Europe, but also to the other Western Balkan countries. Berisha treated this issue at the World Economic Forum, where he valued that the decision that will be taken by the end of June by the consortium, will decide for the future of gas and energetic security in Europe.

Berisha dedicated most of his speech to introduce Albania as a country that welcomes and guarantees fiscal facilities for every foreign investor.

Noting that Albania was not affected by the crisis, like its neighbours, exactly because of these reforms, Berisha declared that the lesson they have taken from the global crisis is that every potential of the country should be used for production.

“This scheme is working and has a certain future ahead”, Berisha declared.
