Gërdeci trial, 3 postponements in one week

15/04/2011 16:00

Although it seemed that Tirana Court had found a solution for accelerating the “Gërdec” trial, adding in its agenda three sessions per week, excessive adjournments still remain a grave problem. (UPDATE)

The session of this Friday lasted only 15 minutes, time on which the judge only called the names of the parties and right after that he declared that the court was adjourned for the next week.

Same thing continues to happen again and again. One of the lawyers is absent for health reasons, and the session is adjourned. As the legal actors of this trial leave the room and go to another trial, the families feel another kind of experience when these sessions are adjourned. They are the ones who still suffer the pain for the “Gërdeci” tragedy victims.

TCH: Why did you cry when the session was over?

Erison Durda’s mother: “I cried because this is an offence, they are mocking us. This is for crying out loud! This state that we have… I wish them all the worst! Dear God, how much do you tolerate!”

This Friday’s session was supposed to hear the testimony of witness Patrick Henry, American businessman who managed “Sac” company.

Patrik Henry and his three American witnesses refused the court’s call to appear in the session. It remains unknown if the court will repeat its demand on the next session, surely, if the session will not be adjourned again.

After the alarm for the dragging of this trial until its failure, an alarm that arrived even at the office of Albania’s President, the judges decided to attend three sessions per week, which has only resulted to three adjournments per week.
