Fullani, opposition’s vote leak

While the Socialist MP Eduard Shalsi abstained, the MPs Arben Malaj and Ben Blushi voted in favor of Fullani, although the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, was against this candidacy.

55 other opposition MPs voted against Fullani, from 66 that they are in total. Fullani became Bank of Albania Governor in 2004 and was elected by the Socialist Party of the time.

The first relations with the new majority that came in power in 2005 were not that friendly. But today, Prime Minister Berisha was the one who proposed Fullani for a second mandate, and also valued him for the good abilities in managing the risks that come from the international financial crisis.

The opposition accused Fullani of being politically depended from the government by offering them suspicious benefits, such as the purchase of Hotel Dajti and direct and indirect financing of the budget deficit.

The Socialist Party also accused that Fullani’s election as Governor of Bank of Albania for the second time is related with Ilir Meta’s trial, since Mr. Fullani’s wife is a member of the judge panel that is treating the trial of the former Deputy Prime Minister.

Fullani is the first Governor that has received two mandates.

Bank Governor, President decrees Fullani

The Albanian President, Bamir Topi, decreed the candidacy of Ardian Fullani for another mandate as Governor of Bank of Albania.

Fullani’s name was seen in the list that the Council of Ministers proposed for the members of the Supervisory Council.

The Parliament passed a list of nine names, while Fullani’s candidacy, being proposed by the government, is just a procedure that needs only the majority’s votes.

The opposition has reacted through the Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, who declared that this is the most inappropriate candidacy, which would not allow someone new to repair Fullani’s damages.

“For the people’s sake, I hope that the dangerous economic situation will end as soon as possible. President Topi and the other Fullani’s supporters are wrong. They removed all opportunities to repair the politicized direction of the Albanian Bank. The Socialist Party will vote against this decree”, Rama declared.
