The Parliamentary Commission of Economy approved with the majority’s
votes the Presidential decree for appointing Ardian Fullani as Governor
of the Albanian Bank, for a second mandate.
The government had announced their support for Fullani, but although the opposition considered him as politically biased, most of the opposition MPs were not present in the voting.
The only ones who remained there were the Socialist MP Mimi Kodheli and Erjon Brace, one of the most criticizing MPs towards Ardian Fullani.
“You might be convinced by Mr. Fullani’s vision. We ask Fullani to present his legendary vision at the Commission of Economy, for all economic indicators of this country, and what has been the impact of his excellent political and professional performance”, Brace declared.
Brace added that the Parliament is following an illegal procedure for electing the Governor.
“I want to know the practice that has been documented between the Albanian Parliament and the President, so that there is cooperation between the two institutions, because the other Presidential decrees have been rejected for this reason”, Brace declared.
Ardian Fullani’s candidcay was proposed by the Council of Ministers, and he was voted also with some votes from the opposition.
Bank Governor, President decrees Fullani
The Albanian President, Bamir Topi, decreed the candidacy of Ardian Fullani for another mandate as Governor of Bank of Albania.
Fullani’s name was seen in the list that the Council of Ministers proposed for the members of the Supervisory Council.
The Parliament passed a list of nine names, while Fullani’s candidacy, being proposed by the government, is just a procedure that needs only the majority’s votes.
The opposition has reacted through the Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, who declared that this is the most inappropriate candidacy, which would not allow someone new to repair Fullani’s damages.
“For the people’s sake, I hope that the dangerous economic situation will end as soon as possible. President Topi and the other Fullani’s supporters are wrong. They removed all opportunities to repair the politicized direction of the Albanian Bank. The Socialist Party will vote against this decree”, Rama declared.
