This government meeting had a very tight schedule today. They discussed
about the budget, the project “Digital Albania”, 5% cuts on operative
expenses for government agencies, Albtelecom privatization, government
candidacies for Bank of Albania, the hydro exploitation of the Vjosa
cascade and two hydro power plant concessions.

For the Bank of Albania Board, the government proposed Ardian Fullani, the incumbent Governor whom Berisha described as the person who led the Bank during the most difficult times for the European and international finances.

By reconfirming Fullani in the Bank board, the Prime Minister raised a big question for the new Governor, by proposing the chairman of the Financial Supervision Agency, Elisabeta Gjoni, whom he valued for an important contribution in the creation of The Agency.

The Prime Minister proposed Petraq Milo as the second candidacy. According to him, Milo is one of Albania’s more prominent personalities in the finance area.

Five other board members will be proposed by the Parliament and one other by the Board itself. One of the nine new board members will be chosen as new Governor of Bank of Albania.

As for the budget, the Prime Minister declared that it will be the biggest ever planned. But he added that with the exception of Law Enforcement Agencies, all other agencies will have 5% cuts in their operative budgets.

“We have made serious efforts for making the cuts as economized as possible, but I still guarantee you that there are ways for reducing them even more”, Berisha declared.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister confirmed that next year there will be another wage and pension increase, regardless the global debt crisis.

“The dynamism of the Albanian economy enables us to keep our promises for increasing wages and increase”, Berisha underlined.

The Prime Minister added that the next budget will finance the projects of Digital Albania, together with the health and education reforms.
