Fule to visit Tirana

After an explanatory conference about Serbia and Kosovo, and announcing a
visit in Prishtina during March, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement,
Stefan Fule, was asked if he is planning to make a visit in Albania.

“In fact, yes. Yesterday I had a very good talk with the Albanian Foreign Minsiter, and we discussed that after the agreement of November, it is very important now to produce a critical mass of progress for the 12 criteria and the electoral reform, so that the Commission can make a positive recommendation for the European Council”, Fule declared.

On 6 and 7 March will start in Tirana the seminary with the European Commission for the evaluation of the action plan and the progress reached so far in fulfilling the 12 criteria. While greeting the approval of the Penal Code, Fule made further announcements for reducing the political rhetoric and for focusing on the reforms.

“This is very good news, especially when someone reads the newspapers and the news that come from Albania. This is something that we have discussed with the Foreign Minister, something that we have discussed with the Prime Minister and that I will definitely discuss with the opposition leaders. So, please, reduce the rhetoric. The political rhetoric doesn’t help you in progressing with the all-inclusive reforms. Focus on the positive part of Albania’s progress. This is what the member countries expect”, Fule underlined.

Even after two reports with the same recommendations, the two political forces in the country have not approved the common action plan for implementing the 12 criteria.
