The establishment of the Parliamentary Commission for the Electoral
Reform and the passing of two laws with qualified majority were greeted
by the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule.

Fule welcomed the decision taken this Monday by the Conference of Chairmen for establishing the Parliamentary Group of the Parliament Regulation Reform and for approving the schedule to review and pass the qualified majority laws.

“These developments, together with the Parliament’s full return to functionality in September, are the decisive steps for normalizing the political relations in the country and that will mark the end of the stalemate. These are the most important elements of the efforts for revitalizing Albania to progress with the key reforms and fulfill the 12 criteria set by the Opinion of 2010”, Fule declared.

The Commissioner appealed for constructive political dialogue:

“I encourage the ruling majority and the opposition to construct upon these positive developments by establishing and conserving the political dialogue, for enabling the functionality of key democratic institutions, especially the Parliament, and reach results for a consensual Electoral Reform in full accordance with the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations and those from the Commission of Venice. This must result in the creation of a new moment for the EU Integration reforms in Albania, especially in the implementation of the 12 key priorities set by the Commission’s Opinion”, Fule declared.

Fule expressed the Commission’s readiness to continue supporting Albania for its EU membership.
