Fule: Kosovo, not a condition for Serbia

The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, declared that
Serbia is on the right track for receiving the candidate status on March
2012.
Speaking for a daily Serbian newspaper, “Vcernje Novosti”, Fule rejected the speculations of Belgrade that Brussels is imposing the recognition of Kosovo for the EU candidate status.
However, Fule underlined that the status will be realized only if the country will mark further progress in the dialogue for technical issues with Kosovo.
“The European Commission cannot and will not impose to Serbia to recognize the Kosovo independence”, Fule declared.
The Commissioner underlined that the fact that Kosovo and Serbia have progressed with the dialogue for a negotiated agreement is encouraging.
