Elections and the EU integration process were the key words during the
visit of the EU enlargement Commissioner in Tirana, Stefan Fule.

First he met with the EU ambassadors in Tirana, who shared their views regarding the recent political developments in Albania. The only one who gave an interview after the meeting was the Ambassador of Kingdom of Netherlands, Martin Delabey.

“We discussed about the next elections and the candidate status, including the issues that require a final solution. Despite the elections, the integration agenda is key element for the future of Albania”, Delabey declared.

Fule held a special meeting with the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu. He refused to comment the details that were discussed, but he explained on Twitter that he came to treat the most essential issue of the Albanain modern state: What should be done so that the elections don’t get contested.

Fule’s meeting with PM Berisha lasted 50 minutes.

Accompanied by Vasilis Margos, Director for Albania at the European Commission, and EU ambassador Sequi, Fule attended a meeting at the Socialist Party headquarters with the opposition leader, Edi Rama. Same as in the other meetings, Fule didn’t comment what they had discussed.

However, SP declared on a press release that Edi Rama and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, spoke about the European fate of Albania before and after the elections. The Commissioner addressed some key issues for the functionality of the state and what should be done so that the elections don’t get contested.

Rama presented some concrete propositions to guarantee the freedom and honesty of the elections, and that after June 23rd Albania will be free from the obstacles of the past.

Before leaving, Stefan Fule had a meeting with the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani. The Commission is expected to publish a press release about Fule’s meetings in Tirana.
