The latest developments for the implementation of the Customs stamp
agreement between Kosovo and Serbia were discussed in the meeting that
the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, held today with the
Kosovo Minister for EU Integration, Vlora Citaku.
According to the press release, the Minister Citaku informed the Commissioner for having removed the embargo against Serbian goods and about her personal commitment on the EU agenda.
As regards the dialogue for the visa liberalization, the EU Commission is expecting the evaluations of the expert team that visited Kosovo last week, who verified the integration process of repatriated persons.
As for the yearly report, Fule mentioned the significance of the legislation for trade and the autonomous measures that should be taken in respect of this. He hoped that the EU member states will find an agreement for enabling Kosovo to participate in the EU cultural and social programs.
The Commissioner expects that in the next dialogue round, by the end of September, Prishtina and Belgrade will achieve new agreements for reconciliation and regional cooperation.
The Commissioner gave this message after meeting the second person in charge at the Serbian Government, Bozidar Djelic, to whom he reminded that the regional cooperation is a key element in the Stabilization and Association process, which is important for Kosovo’s European integration.
The European Commissioner assessed that Serbia has incarnated the EU standards in some areas, such as the electoral law, the finances of the political parties, the Parliament’s relations with other independent institutions and the judicial system, where they are reviewing the process of judges and prosecutors nominations.
The Commissioner asked the country to mark progress in the media strategy; in the law for property compensation and the law of public properties, and also in the war against corruption. Serbia is expected to receive the candidate status by the end of this year and open the negotiations for EU membership.
