France honors Kaadare with “Commander of the Legion of Honour”

The Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare, received today by the French
President, François Hollande, the highest honor that France could give
him, the “Commander of the National Order of the Legion of Honour”
title.

The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace, in Elise. A close circle of guests were present in the ceremony, including Prime Minister Edi Rama.

This title in the second homeland of Kadare, where he has been developing his career since 1990, is an honor for the Albanian language and culture.

The title was announced in the beginning of this year, on the writer’s 80th anniversary.

As for its importance in literature, the same title was given to the French writer, Michel Tornier.

The title was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and has five categories: Knight, Officer, Commander, Grand Officer, Grand Cross.

The titles are given when the receiver’s work raises the reputation of France through studies, arts, science, politics, journalism, etc.

Considered as one of the most genial contemporary writers, Ismail Kadare has been translated in 50 languages and has been nominated several times with the “Nobel” prize for literature.
