Former Prosecutor Haxhi Giu was one of the 731 prisoners who benefited from the amnesty.
However, his freedom was put in question very quickly. One hour after being released from the Peqin prison, the former Prosecutor arrested over corruption charges was asked to get back in his cell.
The General Prison Police said they asked him back to verify the releasing procedures, and check the documentation by their legal experts.
Giu was arrested by the Court of Serious Crimes with 2 years and four months in prison, of which he served 1 year and three months. He earned amnesty for the remaining nine months.
Giu was arrested on December 2nd, 2015, after receiving 29.000 EUR in exchange of raising softer charges against a defendant.
