Former persecuted people write to Berisha

A group of former politically persecuted people have sent an open letter
to the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, regarding the
compensation law that passed last week at the Commission of Laws, in a
reasonable variant proposed by the Socialist Party.

“We had hoped for a more serious engagement by your government, in order to end the delays. We are revolted by the way how you argued the rejection of the version approved by the Commission of Laws”, the letter says.

“Your decision for giving compensation only to those who are over 85 years of age, is an attempt for avoiding the responsibility that you have towards our category”, the letter continues.

The people who have signed this letter remind Berisha that not only in Albania, where the average life expectancy is 72 years old, but even in rich European countries, few are the people so lucky to reach 85 years of age.
