Today in the Special Court, a hearing was held against the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, who was in office at the time of the murderous explosion of the weapon dismantling plant in Gerdec.

Through his lawyer, Henrik Ligori, Mediu objected to the act-economic-financial expertise as well as the answers given by the experts in the last session.

Lawyer Henrik Ligori said that “they have objections on the aspect of the form and content of the act-economic-financial expertise” and that the experts are out of context of the facts.

He said: “The dismantling of ammunition is not a process that started and ended with the plant in Gërdec. It is a process that happened both before and after it. Experts are called to give an opinion in the field of science.”

“Experts say that the dismantling process at the Poliçan factory is a profitable process. Then if it came out with a profit, why did the state only spend and not earn?”

As Top Channel’s Anila Hoxha reports, Mediu’s lawyer Henrik Ligori added during the hearing:

“The accusation of ‘abuse of duty’ requires economic damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence.

“First, damage in the amount of 4400 usd was caused by the entity SAC for non-declaration of income from sales. The question is this, what does the claim of the experts have to do with the Ministry of Defense? What does it have to do with the powers of the accused minister in this process?”
