The former mayor of Kukës, Safet Gjici, who was involved in a sex video in his office published a few days ago, was arrested this Saturday afternoon by order of the Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime.
The order was given after he was put under investigation at the time of the publication of an intimate video with a woman in the premises of the office in the municipality he headed.
Gjici is suspected of committing corruption with a public tender and after verifications in the municipality of Kukës, a request has been submitted for the arrest of the former mayor.
After the publication of the sex video in the public workplace, Safet Gjici resigned from his position, saying that he was “prey to a trap” and he admitted that he had had an intimate relationship with the woman who appeared in the video. The latter was placed under house arrest by the authorities.
Safet Gjici had just won the local elections on May 14 and was expecting to officially resume his post as mayor. After his dismissal from office, his place was taken by the vice-president Granit Gjana.
