Former Interior Minister’s trial accepted by Court

The Tirana Court of First Instance started the trial for the former Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, and three former police officers.

Tahiri and the former Vlora Police Chief, Jaeld Cela, requested an accelerated trial.

Both of them had requested the Court to suspend their cases, the ruling was to start the trial.

If the accelerated trial request is accepted, it does not imply that they plead guilty, but that the process will be finalized with three sessions: one session for the Prosecution, announcing its pretence; one session for the defense lawyers; one session for the verdict, thus eliminating debate in trial.
