
Former Deputy Prime Minister Ilir Meta greeted the verdict of the
Supreme Court, while he accused the Prosecution of acting as an
extremist political cellule with the sole purpose of damaging the image
of Ilir Meta and the Socialist Movement for Integration, the political
party that he leads.
“The goal of the Prosecution was not to find the truth. Their actions are based on electoral purposes. The Prosecution has abused with dozens of thousand of dollars on illegal, invalid and intentional inspections.
According to him, the Prosecution was not allowed to investigate for the truth, because the truth could not get out before May 8th elections.
SMI leader underlined that he will use the Albanian and European legislation for winning the battle against the Prosecution, which, according to him, has committed criminal acts against him.
One day ago, the Penal College, headed by Adrian Dvorani, gave its preliminary decisions for the requests of the defending party, rejecting the most important one, that of suspending the case.
Former Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Economy, Ilir Meta, is accused by the Prosecution for active corruption, an accusation connected not only with the registration made by Dritan Prifti almost one year ago.
The next session will be held on July 22nd, and will start with a list of witnesses. The first one will be MP Dritan Prifti, considered as the key witness in this case. After him there will be a number of well-known Albanian businessmen, such as Rezart Taçi, Ymer and Skender Tola, Agim Rrapaj and several others.
The Court accepted all the evidence presented by the prosecution, such as the video recorder owned by Mr. Prifti and the tape that broadcasted the scandal at Top Channel’s program “Fiks Fare”, and also the entire respective documentation of the tenders that were filed at the Ministry of Economy during this time.
The Court accepted a verification made by the defense in Italy, and the documentations of the request made by the Prosecution in 2002 for removing the immunity of MP Prifti.
