One day after the Party for Justice, Integration and Unity accused
Minister Edmond Haxhinasto regarding his declaration about Chameria, the
Foreign Ministry replied with a press release.

The Spokesperson declared that the Minister’s declaration about Chameria has been misinterpreted. The declaration says that the Ministry has asked that the persons who have “Chameria” as their birthplace on passports, could make an agreement with the Greek counterpart, so that they will not be stopped in the border and that they can move free.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted the Greek Embassy, right after this problem was identified, for protesting and asking explanations why some Albanian citizens have been stopped at the Greek border. The Greek Embassy explained that the official Greek toponyms, which they have registered at the UN and other international institutions, do not include “Chameria” as a term. The Foreign Ministry has asked an agreement for this category of people, so that they will not be stopped in the border and so that they can move freely in Greek territory. The Foreign Ministry expresses its regret for any manipulation or politicization of this issue for clear populist goals”, declared the Spokesperson of the Ministry, Eva Kushova.
