The Albanian Foreign Minister, Edmond Panariti, met in Athens with his
Greek homologue, Dhimitris Avramopulos. The two ministers talked for
more than one hour about a series of mutual issues, especially the
maritime border agreement, the blocked passengers at the Greek border,
the documents and their legalizations.

The two ministers decided the opening of a series of meetings on Foreign Ministers level at least twice a year.

“Albania is our ally in NATO and soon will be our collaborator in the EU. Both countries have good neighboring relations. I am here to express the good will of my people for the continuity of these good relations. In this sense certainly helps the Greek Minority in Albania and the Albanian emigrants in Greece. The TAP pipeline memorandum that we signed a few days ago in New York gives to our countries the chance to turn into important crossroads of transportation and energy. This pipeline increases the energetic independence of Europe”, declared Avramopulos who underlined the maritime pact.

“We talked about the mutual relations, about the maritime border between the two countries. We agreed to cooperate for crossing the obstacles in this issue, and we thought to have twice meetings each year of our Foreign Ministers. This would help crossing several problems. Greece supports Albania in the NATO and the European path. Albania is preparing to enter the EU, so let’s make our region an oasis of cooperation and prosperity”, the Greek head of diplomacy declared.

The Albanian Foreign Minister underlined Tirana’s desire to have good relations with Greece. Minister Panariti considered this visit as constructive. Panariti declared that there will be talks that will be based on the Albanian Constitution and the International Laws. He invited his Greek homologue to visit Tirana on the 100th year of independence.

“We valued with Minister Avramopoulos the progress of the mutual relations between our countries, and we discussed the opportunity to intensify our relations even further. Our agenda has inherited and new matters that need a solution. These issues were mentioned during this meeting and I can say that we found the understanding for negotiating them in an expert level, with special meetings and common Commission, according to the matters”, Panariti declared.

Panariti also held a meeting with the Greek President, Karolos Papulias. “Mr. Minister, welcome. I am happy that you visited my country. Greece is determined to establish good relations between the two countries. I am one of the people who have given many efforts to reach this satisfactory level of friendship between our countries”, Papulias declared during the meeting.
