Direct foreign investments reached 5.8 billion EUR the first trimester of the year.
Official data from the Bank of Albania say that compared to one year ago, the value of assets owned by foreigners in the Albanian economy has increased with 800 million EUR.
But what are the sectors that attracted more foreign capital? According to the Bank of Albania, information and communication sectors top the list, with cell phone companies and call centers. The foreign investments stock in this sector is 1.22 billion EUR.
The second most preferred sector by foreign companies is electricity and gas energy. This includes construction of concessionary hydropower plants and the TAP Pipeline.
The Bank of Albania says gas and electricity projects have attracted more than 1 billion EUR of foreign investments to Albania, while the financial sector is listed third, with 952 million EUR.
Companies from Greece keep holding the number one position, with their assets mounting up to 1.2 billion EUR. Dutch investors come second with 870 million EUR.
